Academia and Teaching

Professor Peter Neville is an animal behaviourist who was in practice for the referral and treatment of behaviour problems in cats and dogs in the UK for over thirty years. He began his professional career as a research biologist for the Universities Federation for Animal Welfare before progressing into companion animal behaviour therapy in the late 1980s.

He established the first UK veterinary school pet behaviour referral clinic at the Dept of Vet Medicine, Bristol in 1990, served as Clinical Professor in Animal Behaviour at the Dept of Vet Medicine, University of Miyazaki, Japan from 2008-2011, and was an Adjunct Full Professor at The Dept of Animal Sciences, The Ohio State University, USA teaching for 18 years until 2019.

Peter is a Founding Partner of the Centre of Applied Pet Ethology International (est 1993). COAPE International is a leading independent on-line education course provider that pioneered the EMRA™ and ESTA™ approaches to pet behaviour problem assessment and treatment.

Author and speaker

Peter is the author of the internationally best-selling books 'Do Cats Need Shrinks?' and 'Do Dogs Need Shrinks?' and author/co-author of 15 others, including 'EMRA Intelligence: the revolutionary new approach to treating behaviour problems in dogs'. He has authored/ co-authored several scientific papers, produced/ presented several DVDs/films on feline, lupine canine behaviour, and writes every month in the leading UK pet magazines Dogs Today and Your Cat. Peter is an experienced media broadcaster and spokesperson on animal behaviour in the UK and has lectured at veterinary, pet behaviour and training conferences all over the world.

African Safari Guide

Peter is nowadays often to be found in various parts of Africa as the resident animal behaviourist helping to run unique ‘hands-on’ safaris throughout southern and East Africa, the Antarctic and Galapagos with top naturalist and professional guide Andrew Rae of Rae Safaris, based in Johannesburg

Publishing

Peter Neville Publishing was established in 2022 to write, illustrate, design and print books and booklets, and also prepare them for on-line publication. Titles prepared to date include ‘African Predators’ by Andrew Rae and Peter, ‘Memoirs of a Safari Guide’ by Andrew, Peter and cartoonist Russell Jones, and ‘Do Pets Need Shrinks?’ by Peter and Russell.

The company now accepts applications to design and produce books and booklets from authors in all fields with the exception of novels. Please contact Peter via mail@pneville.com to receive an initial pre-submission form to complete and return if you have a mind to publish your ideas.

WorthWildAfrica

WWA is a charitable distribution fund founded in South Africa in 2021 by Peter, his partner Stella Grgic and Andrew Rae to assist projects involved in the study, monitoring and/or conservation of animal species or those that help build positive relations and understanding between wildlife and local people.

WWA directs 100% of all funds raised to the purchase of equipment, such as radio collars, webcams, camera traps, cameras, animal-proof fencing etc to support existing projects with useful items that their other funding doesn’t cover but which will enable them to work more efficiently or get better results. ’Please give a lot, it will help a little’.

Family

When in Europe, Peter lives in Helsinki, Finland and Zagreb, Croatia with his partner Stella and Moya, their Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever and tabby cat Queen Trista. He has two grown-up children; a daughter Sinéad living in New Zealand, and a son, Leo, in Norwich, UK.
